but it does kind of beg the question why don't they just keep it that way all the time. why don't they just stop playing awful music and maybe let their employees just listen to whatever music they want to while they're working, on their little headphones. and besides all the customers are probably also listening to music on their little Spotify phone thingies or whatever or wanting to to anyways were it not for the terrible music being played on the store system

Honestly they'd probably have to make architectural changes to make them actually silence friendly. Sound deadening and such. Neurotypical and anxious people don't want to hear the noises their bodies make, they don't want the echoes of them dropping things to reverberate through the store, etc. I kinda get it. Still you have a point about being able to add your own noise, if you need it, instead of buying some expensive device to provide your own silence.

I also suspect a moderate amount of Christmas music does increase sales
