Also the caps around the CPU (tall green ones) should be looked at

Also make sure your AC plug solder joints aren’t cracked

Better replace the thermal paste. The old stuff will need some kind of solvent, it’s become concrete

Basically if you find an OG Xbox that still has its rubber feet, watch out!

don't rip it out, use a soldering iron or side cutters

use heat to get the heatsink off (just run the thing for a few minutes), it's like cement otherwise

you can buy or print 3D-printed feet with screw holes

Even with heat I’ve had trouble, it really IS like cement. Goo gone will nuke it but use sparingly.

And yeah you really shouldn’t just rip it out, and I’m gonna plead the fifth on if I’ve personally done that to my box.

I've repasted two and did some things with a hairdryer that I'm not proud of. No idea what goo gone actually is, they don't sell the actual stuff here, unfortunately, Alcohol and a lot of elbow grease eventually worked
