I feel very passionately about workers comp in like probably a weird way. I used to work on software for like... making and processing claims, pretty closely with the people who actually do that work ... I know a lot about how it all works. Despite having to have a really pretty terrible medical emergency to do so, it's interesting getting to see it all from the other side. Seeing the little letter they send you to let you know what to do in what situations, what your rights as a worker are, etc., really makes me feel good about the whole process. Being on the phone with someone trying to make sure I'm not suddenly in medical debt reminds me of the amazing, compassionate people I interacted with at design meetings. I didn't like that job but it all makes me feel like I took part in doing some good in the world, for $13 an hour. Btw. I think i should have made at least what starting wages in the industry were. Oh well.
