daily knowledge: quiznos peaked in the year 2007 with over 5,000 locations. today, there are only 359 locations. the rapid expansion and even rapider decline can be largely attributed to the way the company treated its franchisees. for example, they allowed pretty much anyone to become a franchisee during the 2000s while they were greatly expanding, with one of the terms being that they bought all their ingredients and supplies from a company called american food distributors. this company would then go on to charge much higher than the industry average for supplies, since they were of course, owned by quiznos.
