New survey! So far we've talked about card games, visual novels, roguelikes, hidden gems, and itch.io games. Folks have added great games in the shares and comments sections. Eventually, I'd love to start compiling some of these into some posts highlighting some lesser-known gems.

So, this time: What's your favorite Touhou Project game?

They can be official, they can be fanmade, they can be whatever you want!

While I've been aware of Touhou for many years, 2023 feels like the time I'm finally delving into it headfirst as a...."franchise"? "Subculture"? "Collection of ideas"?

I feel like it exists in a very interesting space, especially because it is treated as quasi-public domain by the creator, ZUN, who has been very generous about allowing indie creators to publish Touhou games themselves with very few restrictions. Because of that, there's been tons to choose from over the years, spanning across all sorts of genres.

So...which are your favorites? Let me know in the comments!

Years ago, Spouse got offered a promotion. It was a great opportunity: career advancement, a raise, upskilling... Only problem: it would require us to move to Detroit.

At the time we had been in Chicago for a little over a year and we were both in love (still are! we're simps for this city). It's just a perfect match for our values and our lifestyle: it's beautiful, it's comfortable, it's easy to move around without a car, we have good friends here.

We really didn't want to move. So Spouse rejected the promotion. The company still pushed for it, offered different incentives, Spouse explained moving out of Chicago was a dealbreaker.

So the company invited both of us to Detroit. We would spend a couple of days there, being wined and dined, exploring the city. They would show us around so we could see that Detroit was very similar to Chicago and that we would surely be as happy there as we were here. They arranged for our accommodation and a car rental.

In which they accidentally let the riff-raff into their exclusive club

hi folks! jae here, back with a new financial update.

you'll probably remember that the last financial update was fairly dire. this wasn't hyperbole; we were in an extremely tenuous position at the time.

fortunately, it turns out being honest about the issues you're facing is a good way to get help with those issues. since the last financial update, we've seen a huge bump in subscriber numbers, short-term revenue, and MRR. this has been huge for us! we are no longer in the position we were.

it's important to note, though, that it is not all from the financial update. while we got a big bump after that was published, it tapered off fairly quickly. our most sustainable growth has come from the large wave of new and returning users we gained from twitter's most recent Bad Decision. we're happy you're all here! thanks for using cohost.

i'd like to try and keep this installment short, so let's get on with it. if you need help on terms, check the past financial updates.

I really enjoyed this story, Hiroko is a useless lesbian boss who doesn't realize the extremally explicit signals she's getting from Ayaka. I really wanna see where this story is going, I find the miscommunication at times to be frustrating but I think there is potential for a very great pay off in volume 2. The characters are so well written and cute and I think given the revelation we get in the last chapter my biggest like "why doesn't she just say this" is answered very clearly.

I feel bad for Risa for being in the unrequited love club but she is really sweet and I loved seeing her gay out for another woman near the end.

The character designs are fantastic, expressions are top tier, solid comedy that is displayed clearly through visuals. It's a story you could understand without being able to read it but is amplified so much by being able to read it. I think it's doing something really cool with actually introducing lesbian identity and everything to the formula which is always a rare but nice treat in a story.

Overall, I really enjoy this book and I look forward to reading volume 2 when it releases.
