i have a question about the ‘giving a villain a redeeming quality’ thing! why does the book say its a negative thing? i thought it would mostly be a style choice!
i get that this book is not very good at giving advice but i can't come up with any reasoning for this at all :o

Hahaaaa this sounds awful. I have no idea if this is really apropos, but fwiw, a thing I learned in writing pedagogy is that one should avoid saying "don't do this." That is to say, it should typically be flipped into "do this instead."

Now, I'm not a pedagogy expert, I just listen to the folks who are lol, but it makes sense to me given what Iser said about negative statements, right? Plus of course all the sociological research into negative statements and how that plays into the course of people's lives.

All of that, I guess, is just me venting somewhat and then also saying this books sounds very awful lol
