I just realised I have more players than roll20 is willing to provide compendium access. I'm going to have to Pay Funds. Foundry remains the superior platform to throw money at, but I'm not confident that bad boy will do anything but chug on my laptop

Are you worried about hosting from the laptop, or that even running it in a browser will be too much?
Hosting. It’s okay when I’ve been the client and it’s been running in a browser tab, but it would chug if there were persistent animations.
Have you looked into The Forge at all? The base plan is only $4 USD a month. Figure if you gotta shell out for roll20 anyways, it may be a better option.
I know other folks have used other cloud servers like AWS for free by staying under specific usage conditions, but I don't know those well enough to recommend them.
Money's a bit tight, but this might be the right call in the long run. I'll look into it
