i'm still off the talsorian discord and the pre-release of Interface Red Vol. 3 where these rules are being housed gives me further reason to keep away. there's elements to these rules that i know will cause the worst kind of hater to clash with the worst kind of fanboy

in theory you can make a character with absolutely shit starting ref, dex, and move, then build your way into an upgrade that provides those stats at 8s. however, that thing costs 20,000eb. that is two months of crafting; that is eight sessions of crafting to clear a dv of 29. if you are able to perform either of those tasks (having the money AND the access, or having half the money and the time), the campaign is over. a lot of borg stuff is priced this way. it is a commitment of time, access, and resources that takes either a coordinated effort or the campaign being in its victory lap.

weirdly enough, i love it for that. the fundamental biosystem required for to make this possible is 10,000eb and super luxury availability (i.e. know a named fixer or have a pc fixer host a night market), but then the FBC bodies themselves range in availability disconnected from price. an Alpha or Gemini is another 10,000, but they can be sourced as if they're 500eb items. this is important if the biosystem itself is a favour from an npc, or a great amount of effort has to be made to have a PC fixer gain the access. it means some of the more common bodies are easier to get your ducks in a row to buy them, but otherwise FBCs aren't going to enter the game unless somebody (probably more than one PC) makes a concerted effort

This is a pretty bad post to ruminate on the rules, so I might reflect on them later. I have a gambit with Vivi and the Raven Gemini that if it works will validate my game master’s complaints

The Gemini has a pretty low overhead with humanity loss, to the point where it’s feasible to get Vivi in a biosystem and provide her the Gemini without tipping her humanity past zero

the Dragoon is especially pernicious cus that's Adam Smasher's body in 2077. even in the piece i've uploaded here, you can see how each borg has their own style and preferences. from start to finish, the splat is trying to let the reader know that they're not homogenized or unable to have their own personal touches. it makes me feel like a lot of people are going to copy off Smasher's design in 2077 instead, a few adventurous people might look at the black and white artwork from 2020 and mentally strip back some implants, but i can't see anyone saying "yes, i want to look like this full on robot." that doesn't feel like the image they're going for with borgs, even hypermilitarized apex predators like the Dragoon
