You can kind of make one out of the cabin cruiser, but fie, fie I say. There are not enough NOSes in the world to make it go fast enough. I kind of wish the speedboat could take a housing upgrade
One of these days, the fabled and apocryphal Rusted Chrome will come out, and hopefully, hopefully, there’s some bespoke nomad access sea vehicles
Or better yet, they honestly rescale the whole thing. It’s weird that speedboats and jetskis are stratified, but then there’s little occupying the space between cabin cruiser and yacht (yacht is simply a cabin cruiser that’s at least comfortable to inhabit, but in theory you can just jam a cabin cruiser with a housing upgrade and heavy chassis to create a yacht in a sense, so why not have the cabin cruiser be a rank five tier, then have something with the cruiser’s sdp but 20 move and customizable rooms?)
That’s totally pie in the sky, Tal has never gone back and made changes to anything in the core, but they have tried recontextualizing what’s there (loosening the theming of certain roles to make them more flexible, retconning armourjacks as visible armour). Nomad access was in a way a simple means to provide vehicles out of what existed in Moto, including corner cases that make for bespoke things (e.g. the Diego Motors Range Trike providing a heavy chassis to a groundbike), so as to overcome a lack of flavour in RAW
Now RAW these things start at two rooms, but I’d like to imagine the concussion prone beds count for living capacity of a single bedroom (which is normally the number of beds +1)
We have to hope that means two rooms below deck. Something like a living room/kichtenette, then a place to sleep with the presumption you’ve got your bath and shower. All this shit is so cramped that I wonder if it flies or whether I need to do more research
Looking at the smallest and most affordable ones that page one YouTube results can provide, those are like one room. It says it seats two per room, but then it’s got like a minimum two rooms below deck. I feel like you have to eyeball it and decide for yourself what model comfortably seats four people below deck as the “layout” for the thing. There’s no way to make this an exact science. One has to hope that seating space and sleeping are the same as these things are designed to be lived in, but it almost makes a similar amount of space as a cargo container and less space than a studio apartment permit more boarders if you rule it like that.
I’m strangely drawn to conceptualising if I get my Sunday game Stinger one to save on rent, as a sort of upgrade from her predilection for cube hotels (the amenities are closer together and she’s afforded privacy for an equivalent amount of space, even in some models I’ve seen which give me a panic attack from the lack of space).
However, there’s two Achilles heels. The first is there’s just no space to be self sufficient in terms of a good exercise routine or a regular stuffit. This thing would be constantly moored while Stinger gets her groceries, goes to Pilates, and concludes the day getting wasted. It’s no different than returning to a cube hotel, for it is merely a place to recharge but not rest, but it is better for the solitude. A yacht is ideal, but a yacht requires nomad 9 when we can get the cruiser at nomad 7 (Stinger’s bosozoku Datsun, complete with a one inch of lift off the ground and unmuffled exhaust, is getting its armour upgrade at nomad 6).
Which is fine by me. Once Stinger gets her yacht staffed with twinks, her poverty stricken aspirations are over. Her vision board is manifested
And doubly fine for the gameplay loop. Rent is the one thing keeping the game from falling apart. RED has this setup where the PCs taking on jobs is a given, what with them being unhoused if they don’t
However, that’s already her livelihood. I’m just saving 500eb a month and making it more comfortable. Choices, choices
