I played Hindsight on Nintendo Switch. The trailer will give a good idea of the look and feel of the game.
Objects function as a kind of portal, transitioning you from mostly static scene to scene in the life of the main character, as she reflects on her childhood after the death of her mother. It's an emotional narrative game that can be played through in a few hours. Themes include grief, family relationships and being a second generation immigrant. Sometimes it's clear that there's a cultural and generational gap between the narrator and her mother, and that adds some complexity to the grieving process.
If you're playing the game on Switch I would play it handheld so you can use the touch screen to tap on objects. That will probably feel more intuitive and less fiddly than trying to use the left thumb stick to move the cursor around. The right thumb stick comes in handy for some scenes when you're wanting to move the camera around in a circle relatively quickly. I think the game will probably feel most immersive via a touch screen; anything that simplifies the controls will allow you to more easily lose yourself in the atmosphere and story.
There are some moments in the game that do feel lyrical or poetic. Images, movement, metaphors, gameplay come together in a satisfying or resonant way. Some of the wordless scenes exploring the feeling of grief in particular felt insightful. At other times the narration helped give a bit more detail for certain scenes. But sometimes it also felt a touch unnecessary. I think the player could intuit enough at those moments without needing a verbal explanation, and at those times the narration felt like it slowed things down rather than allowing me to flow organically onwards into the next scene.
The game as a whole only took a few hours to play through. I think if you enjoy games that are strong on story and emotions, and if you like lyrical visuals and gameplay, this game will appeal to you. I don't know that I'd feel moved to play through it a second time. But if I did, it's nice that the game offers the ability to select specific chapters to replay at will.
