I only recently learned that asset managers now invest massive amounts of money in housing / schools / hospitals / water infrastructure etc., mostly with the goal of flipping these assets for a profit in the short term.
Obviously this shows how clueless I am, but a lot of enshittification makes so much more sense with that context.
