I sometimes forget how unbelievable 2020 was. I was still living down closer to Minneapolis and it was just a normal sight to see business with all their windows boarded up and getting notifications on my phone of the curfew.
I had to drive downtown once. There were concrete barriers surrounding the government center and the national guard was standing out front. Ended up driving right through the heart of it all and it broke my heart seeing the community in so much pain. Local businesses destroyed. The police terrorizing anyone who looked at the funny. My supervisor at the time lived right now in that neighborhood and the building next to his burned down.
But even through all that, you know the only thing that made me feel unsafe? It was the fucking cops. No protestor ever made me feel unsafe.
I maintain my position that the cops were fucking weak. Hiding behind barriers, firing tear gas and rubber bullets at unarmed protesters. It felt good to see the state that afraid of the people.
