I never had access to the original Xbox Live in its day, so I've never been able to experience a lot of those games online before. But now that Insignia.live is up and running, all the original features etc. are functioning. Including things like DLC and title updates! Granted, it has to be applied on a game by game basis, rolled out in monthly batches. But tonight I got to spend the evening playing MechAssault etc. with some friends using the dumbest controller in the world, and I'm over the moon about it.

  • Really cool that you can play OG Xbox Live even though the servers are down now! People are amazing!
  • Mechassault, whew, there's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Such a great game!
  • Unordered lists in markdown, addictive!

That's dope! I had MechAssault when it was new and my claim to fame was beating up on the Penny Arcade guys (take that, so-called "Mech King"!) ((Nobody is impressed))

That game was really great though, and the MP is awesome.

Oh my god this activated a deep & long-dormant MechAssault longing, I was awful at that game but I still loved it as much as any other piece of Battletech content

the burning desire to play spies vs. mercs pandora tomorrow in the warehouse level and do the trick i practiced a lot of luring a merc into the tiny room near the spy entrance to do the wall backflip thing and get and easy knock out, and then just keep doing that over and over because actually trying to win as a spy was too hard

I know I've seen that controller before, but I didn't realize it was so on the nose as to not even be bothered with actually giving the black and white buttons separate colors and just opting to label them as such. Come onnn, ahaha.

But yeah, real cool to see that service making such big strides and replicating even the download infrastructure. I would've been impressed if it just got as far as what we have on Dreamcast, but this is on another level!
