my family has owned turtles of varying sizes every since I was a kid; my parents' house and the house I grew up in both have enormous pens for that purpose.
growing up in a small town, my dad was known by pretty much everyone as "the guy with the turtles", and so if someone found one or needed to abandon one, it would often make its way to our front door. I happened to be in town for one such delivery, and offered to take it off their hands. freya came home with me in the car once it came time to drive back to texas.
