one of the worst parts of living in the desert is how infrequenty it rains. yes, you can look out your window at the dirt and stone and suburbs. but when it's been three months since you've seen a raincloud, that's when you know it's a dead place
the desert is alive and thriving, but human settlement requires it be dead. to truly appreciate it you must go out before the rain arrives (being careful of flash floods) and smell how the plants react when it does
that's probably true, but you have to go a long way from Vegas to find it, in my experience
