I don't have an explanation for like, why right-wing boomers seem to enjoy AI slop so much, but I feel like a key piece of the puzzle is no doubt Thomas Kinkade, whose work now seems somehow inexplicably like it was the template for AI slop before AI slop existed. The grossly oversaturated, hyperreal landscapes, the smooth glossiness of everything, the conventionality in representation of every single thing.
Kinkade has been dead for 12 years, of course, he never lived to see a world where machines somehow optimized doing exactly the kind of thing he spent his life doing. If you go on his company's website, the main thing they are now hawking is licensed Disney art done in Kinkade's style, little glowing postcard landscapes except donald duck or fucking ahsoka tano is frolicking through them. Which also feels very much in line with this idea that boomer slop is pointed in the same direction as him, or his mutant mormon son Jon McNaughton
