I really want a story about how the Jedi got the way they are. By which I mean: child abducting space cops.
How did they come to be the enforcing arm of the Republic? What were they like before? What did they give up to tie themselves to worldly power? What did they gain?
Is the effect of their child-conscription—extincting other esoteric traditions—intentional?
I know there is Legends material that explores some of this—or at least the origins of the Jedi—but it largely comes from before the Prequels.
