Catholic Aesthetics + Buddhist Themes is really a winning combo.
Mamoru Oshii's Angel's Egg seems like a big influence, thematically about a Christian world that received no salvation, owing to his stint in the seminary. Soulsbornes seem to run on the principle of endless samsara with no nirvana, and i'm curious if anyone's ever raised the topic of spirituality with him.
