Reflecting on this piece this morning, 2 things come to mind.

The first and only time in my life I ever went fishing I fell out of the canoe and my dad laid my clothes out to dry by the campfire that night. When I woke up the next morning they had burned away in the middle of the night.

This is probably why most of my interaction with fishing was through minigames like the fishing pond in OoT or Big the Cats levels in SA 1. Which like, man, great vibes, kinda annoyed i didnt think to put a gamey UI on top of this commission.
