Over the weekend, I went out and shot portraits of strangers around Glasgow.
"Excuse me. Hi there. I'm a member of a camera club, and I'm learning street photography. Could I take your picture?"
People were incredibly kind and supportive. I wrote about my experience and the obstacles:
- Finding a good location with some foot traffic
- Gathering the confidence to ask strangers
- Quickly adjusting exposure
- Framing the photo while being watched
- Asking the subject to move
- Getting a natural expression
- Staying calm
With all of these challenges, it still felt very human. At base, you're asking a stranger to trust you with a small favor.
