Over the weekend, I went out and shot portraits of strangers around Glasgow.

"Excuse me. Hi there. I'm a member of a camera club, and I'm learning street photography. Could I take your picture?"

People were incredibly kind and supportive. I wrote about my experience and the obstacles:

  • Finding a good location with some foot traffic
  • Gathering the confidence to ask strangers
  • Quickly adjusting exposure
  • Framing the photo while being watched
  • Asking the subject to move
  • Getting a natural expression
  • Staying calm

With all of these challenges, it still felt very human. At base, you're asking a stranger to trust you with a small favor.
