"Good Enough is good enough" as the smart developers say. For me as a user, an easy UI tweak would be to do something to indicate I have clicked somewhere if it's going to take a moment to happen. Just throwing a little spinner there means I know I just need to wait instead of thinking I missed with my mouse click.
