it's important to be able to move past who you are now, but i think it's equally important to continue caring for the people you used to be. i would once look back at past versions of Me and cringe, try to explain away why i was the way i was. being able to push past that initial "god i was lame in the year 20XX" and into "but i was lame for a reason" and then remembering to understand who i was has made me a lot more comfortable grappling with the uncomfortable, even traumatic things i've been through. it's a lot harder to relate to a person when you aren't them anymore, but it helps!
