The people who love this argument the most are homophobes who get to point at another country and say "you shouldn't complain about homophobia here because they'd treat you even worse!" It's a veiled threat, an excuse for their own behavior, and an excuse for ethnic cleansing all in one!
fr like if I was expected to judge an entire people's worthiness of existence based on institutional homophobia in their cultures I'd have to believe that no person on this planet deserves to live which is just silly. Compassion and solidarity scares bigots, though.
