I'd like to see the ability to tell, without having to check the followers list, whether someone's following me (on their page), yeah. as for metrics, I'm kind of in a weird space with that. I think like and reblog counts would be a good idea, for the person who posted it, but that others' posts should not have that info visible. this lets you figure out better what people naturally respond to, without comparing yourself to others, and without passers-by being influenced by number telling them whether or not to pile on more number. If they like it they'll drop a nice comment and/or hit the heart button.

one of the admins said they want to encourage people to leave comments instead of relying on pushing a heart button. I get the sentiment, but typing a comment takes energy, and people are more or less trained now to hit the heart button on things they like the look of anyway.

Yea definitely, like most times I either don't have the energy to comment or I don't really know what to say besides "cool nice"

At the very least I'd like to be able to see my own numbers, but I also feel like this will just lead to people bragging and/or lying about the amount of engagement they get, which wouldn't be that great either

but yea, honestly if this site is doing anything, it's making me realize the power in a favorite button, like, heart, +yeah, or Discord message reaction. It's just an easy way for a bunch of people to go "yea I like that" without you having to read "yea I like that" over and over, like Facebook when people go "shared" on a post lol

ye. the site's still in active development, so probably this'll be acted on within a few weeks or months. the design of this place feels like it'll pull off the coziness that people tried to get out of masto, and failed to.

as for the "people bragging about / lying about numbers visible only to them," with what I've seen on this site so far? that'll lead to people shitposting about it so hard that bragging stops!

it feels like people are noticing the "cozy" feel of the site and attributing that to the design, when really I think it's a property of any early-stage social media site. it's the honeymoon phase.

One of the main problems I've been feeling is that like. It feels like the target audience is the devs and those that become part of their circle. It doesn't feel like a place where people can make their own social loops, just, join the one central one or not.

And your successfulness in that one circle is heavily based on what you can offer to them, and cater to the established interests therein. Which is why it feels like all that matters is the CSS dance.

i feel like css is already being used for "real" purposes, for customizing the feel of posts or doing more interesting formatting or adding little eyecatching touches. and that seems very good i think, very nuts and bolts in a way

mutuals doesn't actually mean anything though. it means you want to see their posts and they want to see your posts. it doesn't even mean you've ever spoken to each other. maybe part of the problem is that we have used that as a substitute for friendship. surely we shouldn't need a badge on a website to tell us who we're friends with

they've said they're thinking about metrics for biz purposes but tbh even with all of twitter's graphs and numbers i never felt like i was learning anything useful, except that people are more interested when i don't talk about fox flux
