i don't know if this is what you're looking for and it is advice for medium-long hair, but i have tried some of those youtube do-it-yourself haircuts (like wolf cut and butterfly cut) and they were actually pretty easy to do if a bit nerve wracking at first. if you style them they look very fabulous and pretty and fashionable, but when you don't they kind of just look like long hair, especially when tied up in a pony tail. it's not easy to tell that you have a fancy haircut if you don't want that in public (but make sure you cut the bangs long enough to pin them down at least). i feel like simple long hair isn't seen so much as a gendered thing anymore. but you can style it for a super pretty look when you want to.
