I need to say something, like to tell a lesson from New Zealand.

We had an election recently, where our local governing party was shitting the bed repeatedly in many different cases. It wasn't evil, it was just kinda not really competent. They were just trying to deal with stuff, still for good. But being still a clusterfuck.

Come election, people were understandably sick of them, so they almost voted in a way against them, not for someone else, and ended up electing... outright evil muppets, who are actively now dismantling social programs and making the economy go into the nosedive.

Why am I typing this out?

Hell if I know.

Sure, a solid chunk of it was people actually taken in the far right bullshit, particularly the promises of a "soft" Brexit that evaporated the moment the results came in.

But with a margin that small, the "fuck the Tories" vote probably tipped things over.1 And like the Tories are proper evil, they 100% deserved to get fucked. But they didn't really, they got empowered with the opportunity to fuck things up so much worse than they otherwise would have.

  1. Despite calling the vote, the Tory leadership campaigned for remain. The Prime Minister David Cameron resigned and we got a procession of Tories who either campaigned for leaving or changed their minds after the referendum.
