thought,,,, a fantasy setting with "frontier" themes, but set in a place/region that's being resettled after some manner of disaster from which much of its population fled. not only is it less uhhh fraught, but it's not something unheard of in our own world (natural disasters and big wars and whatnot) and there's a lot of interesting opportunities for having the calamity have been weird and/or complex in ways that set up plot threads. Frontier stories of crime and banditry recontextualized in a setting of post post apocalyptic rebuilding...?
really putting the post in post apocalypse. The calamity is long passed, the world is changed in some ways and the same and others, but scars still linger both among the survivors and on the land, hmmm
