Heya! I'm Behemoth, and I'm a big ol' nerd. Professionally, I recently became a web developer, but I used to work at the Pike Place Market. FFXIV, JoJo, One Piece, Gundam, etc.

I have to explain that there is no missing context here. This is the opening cutscene of this mission. After this you just start running around a forest killing giant worms and water elementals.

This game is a real gem. Everything about the cutscenes and plot is so bizarre. The protagonist is seemingly an isekai'd dude with amnesia (he has a smart phone for some reason???) who grumbles every single line in the exact same tone. In the mission before this, the other party members were talking like they know who he really is, and what's going on, but he didn't react at all, and it was never discussed.

It's one of those things that blows past "so bad it's good" into some unexplored territory of bizarre singular art.

Also, there's a feature where you can like... talk to random JRPG townsfolk. But they didn't want to bother rendering a whole town for you to walk around in... so you just get a menu with different people. It ends up with a situation where you're loading in this whole environment and high-res model just for a guy to spout the exact same meaningless single line of dialogue as a random NPC in an NES game. It's fantastic.
