Today was a good day.
Worked at home this morning, and then went off to a dentist appointment in the afternoon. I finally figured out a problem with my code that has been driving me crazy for the last week. It was about like... getting Django to properly parse numbers in JSON data as decimals instead of floats. I'm doing complicated financial calculations, I can't be using fuckin' floats, get that shit outta here!
The dentist visit went fine. About as good as I could expect, given my habits. I have one really bad cavity... but it just means I need to get a crown. I've got some others that can just be taken care of normally. All the followups are scheduled. Honestly the cleaning wasn't half as painful as some I've had in the past, actually flossing sometimes has really helped with that.
We actually had some snow down here today... for about ten minutes. It came down really hard, didn't stick, and then abruptly stopped. Wish I could've gone out into it.
Played some more Nioh 2, finished that mission with the Kamaitachi boss. That one's always fun, has some interesting gimmicks going on, the sluice gates and whatnot. Feels like the designers hearkening back to the zelda puzzles that form part of the soulslike DNA that is often forgotten. A lot of Nioh 2 levels feel like... combat puzzles, in an interesting way. Both in the usual souls way of like figuring out the safest way to approach a situation, and also just the terrain you're fighting in being tricky and dangerous.
My build has evolved a bit into like a strength ninja. Keeping ninjutsu, but what if also: a big ol' axe? Turns out, it works pretty well. I'm sticking with kind of tanky armor, a mix of medium and heavy that keeps me in the middle tier of weight. It's working great so far, both axes and kusarigama are kinda slow, but one has amazing range/combos, and the other is just implacable, huge individual hits.
Man, I can't wait for Rise of the Ronin. So excited to see what this studio does with an open world.
