Ahhhhhhh, takin' the day off.
Played more RotR this morning. I feel like they kinda messed up the mission sequencing in this game. I was ostensibly seeking a favor from a character who could get me inside info on the US ambassador, Harris, but I had literally just done a side-mission where I rescued him and got to ask him some questions.
The faction stuff also feels a bit wonky. I did a mission for Admiral Perry where the final boss was one of my anti-shogunate buddies. Next time I talked to him I literally said "hey man it wasn't personal" and then it was fine. I can still choose him to bring along on missions and whatnot. Feels like the basic idea of this system ran straight into the modern game design principle of never, ever locking the player out of any content, for any reason.
I am very curious where the plot of this game is gonna go, specifically with the central question of... what happened to your Blade Twin after the prologue. Apparently they were taken to America, got a cool robot arm, and then came back to Japan with mysterious motives. So far it feels like it would all be water under the bridge if we could just sit down and chat, all this political stuff is secondary.
I'm like... in a position where I don't really care for either faction. I'm not really on the side of the military dictatorship brutally repressing dissent, but nor am I on the side of the dissidents who want to expel all foreigners and re-establish the feudal order. I guess that's why the main plot is sort of side-stepping that, it feels more like a GTA game where you're doing chores for horrible people to accomplish an unrelated goal. Well, given the time period, I guess it's more like Red Dead Redemption.
Anyway, part of me wants to like go on a little trip into Tacoma, but also... it's my day off. I just want to relax at home. So I'll do just that!
