sometimes things that are fancier are worse... maybe dovecotes or iranian pigeon towers are closer to natural looks for a "fancy birdhouse"

I believe similar bird castles are called dovecotes / doocots , they're common across Europe+west Asia and probably elsewhere. They were livestock for eggs and dung , which we dont see so much anymore , so no more bird castles being built...
