I've seen a handful of articles about this thing lately (these images from here), all of which had the same basic take: this is cool, but why?
The first part answers the second: because it's cool. It's futuristic. Everyone is still so obsessed with making laptops thinner and lighter, but when an actual interesting concept comes in, now we get handwringing about the purpose of this design.
Perhaps it is simply because I am a person who is drawn to extremes of design, and also feel like absolutely nobody ever makes any electronics that appeal to me at all, but I love this thing. Looks like it's straight out of Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
It's the same thing that draws me towards things like the Boox Tab Ultra. This thing is so impractical and ridiculous, but at least it's different and interesting. They're doing something that's not just "we crammed X components into an even smaller box".
Fundamentally, I do not use my laptop's screen or keyboard, basically at all. At home and at work, I plug it into a dock and use a proper mouse and keyboard and monitors. It simply serves as a portable computing machine. They keyboard is covered in dust. I would not care if it was six inches thick and weighed ten pounds. If it has to be all sleek and tiny because that's the only thing that gets made, at least give it a cool gimmick, I guess!!
