Heya! I'm Behemoth, and I'm a big ol' nerd. Professionally, I recently became a web developer, but I used to work at the Pike Place Market. FFXIV, JoJo, One Piece, Gundam, etc.

Over the past decade and a half, twitter has become part of the public lexicon. Tweeting, retweeting, quote-tweeting, live tweeting, all that stuff. Even if people aren't on the service, they know about it and how it works, it's all over the news and talk shows and sports broadcasts.

And not even as a generic term! You don't "tweet" on other services! It's exactly what every social media company dreams of, having an identity that is so strong that it can stand up to its own popularity and maintain a draw to new users. To establish such a rock-solid brand is an unbelievable stroke of good luck.

And this idiot just threw it all away! Because of his sheer arrogance, he really, truly believes that he knows better. That he can just do it again. That he's the one carrying the service, that he knows how to make this work, that he can just sprinkle his magic Elon dust on it and makie it into a success, even better than before.

I hate this so much, in ways I can't even articulate. It's such a slap in the face to everyone who cares about doing things well, in public-facing work. Just slap a dumb logo on it, just throw out all that old shit because I want my pet name on this project now. It's that sheer dismissive arrogance of the billionaire class that just runs roughshod over the hard work of thousands. Treating this all like some silly little game you're trying to win, rather than part of the real world.

There were a couple of false alarms, but it sure seems like this is the day where the lights go off at twitter, at least for people who aren't insane Musk sycophants.

In retrospect, it is amazing how quickly the service degraded. Didn't even last a whole year after his acquisition! Shit was breaking and every announcement was like "hey we're adding a shitty version of a feature nobody wants, but only for blue subscribers" or "we're removing this absolutely critical feature and firing another hundred engineers".

I had some good times on that cursed bird site, but even before the site broke, it had been on the way out for a while. The culture was so rancid and it had slowly morphed from a site where you could like... passively keep up with lots of different people, to basically just hot takes and people doing their jobs. Be that journalism or flogging their art or podcast or whatever, it was just official business top to bottom.

Ah well!

Still being on twitter with rightwing dumb fucks getting the top replies on everything because they paid for a stamp does blow for the most part but I am enduring because it is super funny that this whole debacle is on top of Musk losing $13 billion because a rocket blew up and Tesla sales sucking.

Like he's probably one more dril tweet away from burning the whole site down or something.
