Thinking about actually running it as a one-on-one RPG with someone who's only tangentially familiar with Star Trek. Turns out they're a medically altered Romulan agent or something who's gotten pinged with some kind of Alien of the Week Brain Ray and is slowly learning what's up as they interact with the world and try to fit in, utterly convinced they belong on the ship or station and with no knowledge they're an interloper anyway. The only clue would be increasingly sarcastic Esprit de Corps checks over time.

great way to have a running gag of encyclopedia being able to vomit names, dates, and factoids about something at you, but if you ask how something works it doesn't have a clue
ENCYCLOPEDIA [Medium: Success] - This is a T-88 model tricorder. A tricorder is a multifunctional hand-held device that can perform environmental scans, data recording, and data analysis; hence the word "tricorder" to refer to the three functions of sensing, recording, and computing. The purple stripe on the T-88 gives it a racing flair.
YOU - Neat. Anything up there about my role on the ship? Family? Previous assignments with brain-devouring entities?
ENCYCLOPEDIA - No. But you like the T-88s because they have a marginally improved processing speed over previous models. And the purple stripe is cool.
