maybe you haven't been in circles where that would've come up before, that tends to happen with me a lot. I hear it's super popular but nobody's willing to tell you why, it's one of those where they swear you have to experience it for yourself and that just makes me less interested
It takes advantage of the medium of physical print media in a way that is not conducive to, say, the audio book format. There are footnotes, pages that cross-reference each other, sections that are printed in odd ways, etc.
Basically, it's a book that's written in a way as to make the reader FEEL like they're in a haunted house.
ah right that's why the page number is deceptive because not all of them are straight up text. that's a pretty interesting gimmick idea
they call it a "cult following" because nobody's read it, except for the people who have, and the people who have WILL let you know.
