do you remember when the way to record TV shows was to program the VCR with that code that got printed in the radio times

I only found out about that feature in the past couple years. the video recorder in my house lasted until 2013 and was only programmed by entering start and end times.
the previous one didn't even have an onscreen display. you had to crouch down and use the VFD
