Oh, this one's pretty easy. Making any kind of game is difficult, time-consuming, and expensive. A lot of porn game developers don't have very much game development experience. Games in general have a pretty uncertain return on any monetary investment, and porn games (being barred from most mainstream promotion channels and having extremely limited outlets via which they can be sold) are even more uncertain. The audience for porn games is also pretty used to off-the-rack character assets at this point. So, putting that all together, stock assets are an understandably-overused resource for porn games because they:
- Are easy to obtain and manipulate, even for beginners
- Can be used to quickly populate a game
- Are very affordable, or even free
- Represent very little risk since audiences are unlikely to give developers too much flak for using them
That's basically it! Nothing too complicated!
The "easy to obtain and manipulate" thing is so fuckin' important because, crucially, you do not have to learn a full 3D software suite or a game engine like Unreal to use them. Having brought Daz models into Blender and UE5 using the official bridges that sort of set everything up for you, the difference between that and how Daz Studio sets everything up for you is that to get good results in a modeler/game engine you need to know how to use a shader node graph editor, and in Daz Studio you need to know how to play with Barbies or customize an MMO character.
I rarely see people who are able to sculpt/rig/animate their own models using them to create static renders for porn VNs. I actually can't think of any off the top of my head except I thiiiink maybe a furry game I'm half remembering? If y'all know of any I'd love recs; I always like to see different ways of doing this stuff.
