There are rumors circulating based on a job announcement and a couple of registered domains regarding a new Might & Magic game. It's being developed by Ubisoft Shanghai, may have the word "Fates" in its title, and may be an open-world RPG.

I want to remain optimistic and believe in the best outcome due to my sincere love of the franchise but I can't. Ubisoft managed to turn the technocratic fantasy world of Might & Magic into the generic faceless fantasy with dragon gods and shit, and the whole franchise barely kept aloft by the sheer enthusiasm of the developers that had managed to make good games in spite of a lack of financing and strict deadlines.

This month, Heroes 6 looses all of its online features due to the Ubisoft pulling the plug on the game's servers. The thing is that it will render the game's campaign barely playable cause, you know, interconnecting single player with online features is always a genius idea.

So I don't know, I feel that if the rumors are indeed true, it won't be anything more than just a quick underbudgeted game to keep the rights on the franchise. Hope to be wrong, but it's Ubisoft we're dealing with...

If it DOES end up existing I hope they at least care enough to include a "Congratulations On Winning, Feel Free To Print Out A Screenshot Of The Congratulations Screen" message like they did in M&MVIII

Do you have any suggestions for how to get into HoMM? I've tried III and V, and have initially enjoyed them but then quite quickly found the combat monotonous - especially in III, which a lot of people seem to absolutely love. It's up there with Home world as a game I want to really like, but don't seem to be able to.

Yeah, the combat is pretty much the major point of a game in Heroes III, but I get why one can find it monotonous. I can suggest trying Heroes II and IV in this case. The former is less balanced faction-wise, so it adds more variations to the tactics when you learn the game (it's also my favorite game in the series). The latter presents wild mechanics uncharacteristic to the franchise—heroes themselves serve as combatable units, so the combat is much more chaotic.

Also, there's an option to auto-resolve battles and replay them only in cases when the AI screws up or in the more critical battles.
