You're right, that does sound pretty goofy & just like the sort of thing I'd be into! What's it called? (You can just send another ask with the answer if you don't want to expose yourself).
Keeping up with your collection of porn essayists at BP Games for the past couple of months, and JuniperTheory's dig into Steam Adults Only games, made me remember one storefront that to popped up a few years ago: Nutaku, which attempted to corner the browser-based space of hentai games.
Few years before Steam decided to actually allow Adults Only games to be sold, I remember reading a mostly-embarrassing report from PC Gamer which had the usual "Where are the tasteful porn games?" spin, but I did think it was interesting at least that this - presumably - huge den of hentai games existed and was growing. Nothing there really caught my interest and I quickly forgot about it, but I also never saw Nutaku being brought up in any NSFW space I frequented since then. So I'd like to ask yours (or someone you know) Professional Pornographer opinion on it: Did Nutaku turn out to be just another forgotten porn site online? Did it not 'blow up' because its, well, porn? Or am I just completely out of touch?
Nutaku is an interesting case. They claim to have "over 60 million players" which, if true, would make their active userbase roughly half that of Steam's. And yet, like you, I basically never hear about them. Their "paid games" section lists just under 750 games, as opposed to the roughly 3,500 in Steam's "Sexual Content" tag (which IS inflated due to it including things like Yakuza and Assassin's Creed). Their big thing seems to be providing support and networking frameworks for free-to-play browser/phone-based porn games, which is also supported by their $10M fund for supporting the development of primarily F2P porn games. Their blog is up-to-date and they're adding new releases, so I guess things must be going okay for them!

Like if I was making a list of porn games that stand out to me there is no way I could go without mentioning the now defunct RAGS game engine, or the spiritual successors to that style of game currently being made in twine
Oh wow, you're right, I had absolutely zero awareness of this engine prior to reading this ask! Really cool stuff!
And yeah, as much as I do consider myself to have somewhat authority-level knowledge of porn games writ large, I do also try to own the fact that there are vast swathes of the sub-genre with which I have very little knowledge or experience. I don't have NEARLY as much familiarity with the much-longer history porn games have in Japan as I'd like to, fr'instance. I'm also straight and cis and my tastes are informed by that, meaning that my awareness of M/M porn games is pretty low, and I also haven't played a TON of furry stuff or stuff that centers around very specific kinks like transformation, piss/scat, extreme size difference, vore, and so on. It's a journey!
