idk if it's too late to mention now but Sega Ages Columns II (the only port of this arcade game since the Saturn) is like really cheap right now on the Nintendo eShop. Anyways I'm not very good at Flash Columns lol (and I also forgot the Switch even has that photo text editing thing, I swear I haven't seen anyone use it past like the first month of the Switch being out) which is kind of what's holding it back from being a favorite version of Columns for me. Flash Columns can be fun sometimes but my go-to modes are either the classic arcade mode or versus, so Columns III still reigns as my favorite, but I am super interested in trying out II's online multiplayer that the Sega Ages port includes with it (along with a port of the first Columns) so even if I prefer I&III still II is a just really neat thing to have, and while some of the gem skins might be a bit hard to look at I find the 90s time-travel aesthetic of the game to be charming lol, will keep this place posted if I get any better high scores or something, now only if we could get a modern rerelease of Stack Columns... Or Columns Jewel, that'd be nice too, I've really enjoyed that G-Mode has been rereleasing their feature phone games on Switch since feature phone games are so often overlooked when it comes to video game preservation
So I have played Columns II since then, specifically the multiplayer as well. Oddly enough the only footage I've found of the multiplayer on youtube is from Cinemassacre. Gameplay wise it's like III without the meter mechanic. the crush bar is automatic depending on performance which makes it the favorite vs mode of one of my friends. I still prefer III since I like having a "fuck you button" as a mechanic (not to meltion the options) but it's still very enjoyable, would be very down for playing it again
