my partner was an early backer of this kickstarter for weighted plush toys designed by an autistic artist specifically for adults with CPTSD or anxiety. and what better place for a product review than the website for adults with trauma and anxiety?

this one's been sitting in the drafts for a long time. the one thing I kinda dislike about the Weighted Wildlife Experience is that each plushie design has the weights (glass pellets, instead of the more typical PVC) distributed slightly differently, and the individual descriptions do not reflect this: you have to dig pretty deep into the reviews on there website to get a sense of which plush are hard-stuffed, which ones are floppy, which ones have additional crinkle textures, and which ones have weights in their paws or tails instead of just in the body. I was going to post a detailed review of all the ones I've held, but... well. looks like there won't be time.

in summary, I really love these things. I have several (deer, lynx, eagle, wolf, raven, otter, coyote) and I trauma-bonded to them intensely when I was in the hospital: they provided comfort and pressure when I could barely move or sleep. I cuddle one most nights; they're an excellent weighted-blanket substitute if, like me, you appreciate something soft and heavy but tend to overheat.

seems like the kind of thing y'all should know about. okay, there it is. that's my penultimate cohost post.

in reply to @amagire's post:

coyote - probably the best designed, appearance wise, alongside the deer. weight is one beanbag in the body but it's lightly filled, so kinda floppy, but can also sit upright. a bit of crinkle stim texture in the head/ears; not a lot, but worth knowing about if you either love or hate that sort of thing

orca - made of stretch minky instead of faux fur, so it has a nice blobby very cetacean feel. very good to touch, the shape of the beak is particularly nice. beanbag in the belly, denser than the coyote but the fabric stretchiness makes up for the less forgiving squish.

puma - more densely weighted than either the yote or the vvāl, with a solid brick of a weight in the body and additional weights in each paw and the tail. less cuddly than the others but extremely poseable, a good lap beast, and of course multiple weight bags makes it easier to arrange how you want.

watch the seams, though; I've had to repair my partner's cougar and deer. these plushies all have normal seam allowances despite being a lot heavier than a typical stuffie. doesn't bother me since I'm a neat hand with a needle, but worth knowing if you're a more active sleeper than me (which most people are).

oh and TSA hates these fucking things. I keep the butt tags on with the materials list but they still get swabbed for explosives every time.

oh hey, thank you for reminding me of these cuz i've been wanting to get one when i have some extra funds

is the weight difference really noticeable on the otter? it looks like the heaviest one so i think i wanna get that. plus i don't have any otters. honestly it's hard to pick just one tho lol...

the weight differences are mostly negligible but the otter's shape is pretty unique: the long body and thick tail make its weight distribution very unlike (for example) the 3.0lb wolf, which only has one large weight in its body, cushioned by polyfil.
