View in 3D on Sketchfab
Original Description:

It’s been a long, long time since I’ve played Neko Atsume, but it still holds a very special place in my heart. Pepper was always my favorite cat. I love their heterochromia. :D

I wanted to give this an inverted normals outline, but it just absolutely refused to render properly in Blender’s internal renderer, Blender Cycles, and in Sketchfab. I followed every tutorial I found exactly, but nothing I did worked. It looks alright flat, but I really would have liked to have that outline. :/

Fun bit of trivia; Before I remembered to scale this properly, Pepper here was 8 meters tall. Part of me wishes I kept them that big just so I can view them in VR over on Sketchfab. I wanna see an 8 meter tall cat.

Also all of this started as one cylinder for the pot, two boxes for Pepper and the ground, and three splines to create bevel objects for the grass. Then you just build, piece them together, and refine until it looks like stuff! I don’t know why, I just think that’s neat.

very cute! ^^
for a inverted hull outline in cycles you take the "backfacing" node (in the shader), invert the value, and plug it into the alpha. although I always use the grease pencil line art modifier now that that is available.

Thank you! :D
And I know how to do backface culling now. This was from way back in 2017 when I had only been 3D modeling for a few months.
I can't remember exactly what I was doing wrong, but I remember following tutorials as precisely as I could and it STILL didn't work. Blender pre-v2.8 was delightfully cursed at times.
