Auauaugh I didn't want to copy this one over from Tumblr because I feel it aged poorly and I don't like it, but it's the first really complicated and long-term 3D modeling project I finished, so it's important to the archive.
Original Description:
Aaaaa, this project took forever. Making his hair out of continuous topology was A Mistake.
I’m still new to 3D modeling (I started in late September 2017), and one problem I keep having is that I’m learning faster than I can progress through projects. So I either have to redo stuff several times or live with my mistakes. I chose to live with my mistakes on his hair, and it bit me in the ass in several ways. :’D
I should have done way more detail painting on the texture. :1c Everything looks too smooth, and his mouth doesn’t pop out well enough. Live and learn, I guess.
I’m eager to move on to my next project and apply all that I learned from this one!

Original Description:
Here’s a 3D remake of my old icon from February last year! Yeah, I really don’t update my icons often…
I made this as a guinea pig for an even bigger character portrait that I’ve been working on for like a month already. I wanted to make sure I could get a normal map workflow to work, and after a lot of cursing, it did! …aaand then I ended up just going with shadeless anyways because I liked how it looked better for this model. I would have textured things a bit differently had I known, but it still works.

This post is out of chronological order on my page because I cherry-picked over them at first. But I changed my mind because they're the first two sculpts I made when learning 3D modeling, so they're important to the archive.
Honestly impressed how well completely-inexperienced-me-from-6.5-years-ago could sculpt thin, flat topology with only Sculptris' tools. I've been spoiled by Blender and would probably combust if I tried that again.
