a while back i played in a one-shot session of ICON. after looking through the book i immediately latched onto the idea of playing a xixo, which are a type of people that resemble insects and crustaceans, for one very specific reason: i wanted to make a shrimp who fries rice. and that's how i wound up with ebb here. important to note: they're really short. like 3 feet tall.

ebb is a wandering chef with a very cheerful and friendly demeanor. they have a very animated way of speaking, wiggling their antennae and gesturing with all four arms to help get their point across. if you are even the slightest bit hungry around them they'll get out their cooking equipment and whip you up something with whatever ingredients are on hand. don't try to turn them down, you're sure to love it!

but beneath their easygoing exterior is a vast darkness... before they became a chef, ebb was a trained assassin who lived in a sprawling vertical city built in the ruins of an enormous tower. they spent years working as part of the mysterious shadow clan, and eventually gained the ability to use their very shadow as a weapon. on one fateful mission ebb failed to kill their target, and as a result was banished, beaten, and left for dead in the bowels of the city.

they chose to accept their death, only to be discovered by an old man who carried ebb's broken body to their home and nursed them back to health. the man, known only as Chef to the people of the undercity, cared for ebb until they recovered, and when they revealed they had nowhere left to go he took them under his wing. ebb found a new purpose in life as a cook, and learned all they could from Chef. he'd often share tales of his travels from his younger years, which captivated ebb, who had never known life outside the walls of the city. they decided they wanted to see the world someday, too.

time passed, and one day, sadly, Chef quietly passed away in his sleep. with their mentor now gone, ebb decided that they would follow in his footsteps and become a traveling chef. it seemed like the most fitting way to carry on his memory.
