Seeing a few takes about how twitter is ontologically emotionally destructive and I feel like it's a little silly to dismiss the good it did as an equalizer in professional networking, public discourse and news/activism distribution.
Like I joke here and there but I didnt actually take well to the environment because I was a fucking werewolf, it was because it was a casual ecosystem that gave me access to opportunity I wouldnt otherwise have. There seems to be this sneering contempt towards the idea of replicating that utility anywhere else, and to me that sounds like we still lose out on the good twitter did for creators, organized labor and information access just because the Surviving Cool Kids think little of it.
Like, it seems like a lot of folks who want to pitch their ideal ecosystem as where you "should" go as an alternative to the collapsing hellsite also seem weirdly contemptuous toward anyone who was using the old ecosystem for anything substantial. It often seems more like they just want their mid 2000s webcomics forums back. And hell, I do too, but there's other niches to fill and claiming that needing that niche is cringe doesnt help anyone that's been left in the cold and nicheless.
