Saw Blue Beetle. Was a lot of fun! I recommend it.

Let me tell you about the time I wrote professionally for Flixist.
A few years ago, I wrote regularly on the cblogs on destructoid. I wrote a few blogs about film and television. Somehow or other, this got the attention of Matthew Razak, who was the Editor in Chief at Flixist. Flixist was a sister site to destructoid, but all about film and television instead of video games. Matt reached out to me. He liked what I had written and wanted to offer me a shot at being a writer for him at Flixist.
I was deeply flattered by this. I’ve always fancied myself a writer. But, I really didn’t have the capacity for something like this. Beyond my full-time career, I was also in graduate school. I told Matt that I must decline, but I’d like to reach out after I’d finished school. Over a year later, I reached out. He was aghast that I’d actually followed through with my commitment to respond. He immediately took me on as a writer.
I'm calling it right now. This movie will make over a billion dollars at the box office.
A few weeks ago I saw a reddit thread where people were discussing what films left this year have a shot at making a billion. Not a single soul mentioned Barbie. So here I am declaring it to you now.
It's the right film at the right time. The trailers have been impeccable. The cast is top tier. It's led by one of the most talented young directors in the business. It looks like it actually has something to say. Perhaps most importantly, it has color. It looks like a vibrant, visual feast.
Contrast this with Oppenheimer. A Christopher Nolan film. I'm a big fan of his work! I've seen all of his movies (even Following). He's made some great stuff, truly. But I also feel like I've heard what he has to say. I don't know what Oppenheimer will offer to surprise, delight, inform, or thought-provoke me. I really hope it has something! But I fear it won't. The trailers I've seen have shown me nothing to be excited about. And boy does it look beige.
At any rate, next week will be a very interesting weekend at the box office. And so will the few weeks after that.
What do you think? Am I crazy? Will you see either or both of these movies?
