That’s right fuckbuckets, I have even MORE STREETCAR PICTURES.
Today’s perfect angel is East Bay Street Railways 352, aka the “Breadbox”. This car originated with one of the many streetcar systems in Oakland and the East Bay that would eventually be swallowed up by the Key System. “East Bay Street Railways” was the local service division of the Key’s operations.
352 received a major rebuild in the famous Key Shops which removed much of its original wooden body and replaced it with sheet metal. Among the casualties was 352’s clerestory, giving it the squat appearance that lead to its nickname. It gained an exceptionally plush set of leather seats, reflecting the Key’s strategy of out-doing their competition on comfort. The car is displayed in the excellent 1931 paint scheme, my favorite ever transit scheme. The phone camera and dim light in the middle of the car shed don’t do the gorgeous colors justice.
