I really wanted to capture the used, but well maintained look found on a number of western railroads in the 1960s with these two. Like they'd just growled a couple of hundred miles with a heavy ore train or manifest freight and were quickly refueled & turned around instead of wasting precious desert water in the wash rack.
These are 1/87 scale models on my model railroad, the ALTA.
the streaking on the locomotives looks really good, but I admit I'm admiring the desert
The Mesa was SO FUN to build. I cannot wait to do more desert scenery.
