Starfield is a weird game.
When it's being a Bethesda game it's maybe the best Bethesda game they've made (for all that that means a different thing to different people)
When it strays from that path and tries to incorporate elements from No Man's Sky or something it's... The fuckin worst. Not like 'oh this isn't as good as No Man's sky has ended up after years of patches and updates' but like, actively really fucking bad.
Like take the space ship stuff.
It may as well not be there? Like for all the purpose flying your ship around serves you might as well have the planet menu from outer worlds.
You can't really... Do anything from flying your ship.
You can't actively fly between planets or really find anything or do anything you just point your ship around mostly empty space. Then select where you want to go from a menu. The actual ship piloting feels completely superfluous. Travelling between worlds is basically just three menus with 4 load screens in it and no real ship piloting.
But when it's being a Bethesda rpg with shooting and jet packs it's a pretty good Bethesda rpg.
Honestly the most frustrating thing about it is how much it feels like a 'this is an interesting first try that could be improved upon a lot with a sequel' and knowing that with their output it's gonna be at least like fourteen years till we get starfield 2.
Also, thank God for gamepass so I didn't have to pay for this.
