It's just a better system.

Even in the case where there is a mental breakdown being had by someone potentially dangerous, does anyone really think sending armed officers to that person's front door is going to de-escalate the situation?

The one person in my outer family who we tried calling a wellness check on doesn't trust the police. It's just a bad system.

Not sure where in the world you are, but I live in Ontario, Canada. Most cities here have a mental health team that they send out for Wellness Checks - one police officer and a mental health nurse. The officer just stands there while the nurse does their thing. The officer is there only for violent situations, or if you say you're going to harm yourself and then try to run away or something like that. At least that's the impression I get.

First of all, I just realized that your tags said Ontario and Canada so sorry for being a cohost noob πŸ‘€

I had no idea Wellness Checks had like...requirements. I thought you could just check on anyone who told you there was a potential for harm. And yes, there is a big problem with many people not trusting the police (I didn't for the vast majority of my life).

I don't know what to do other than cry out in frustration.
